**West Buchanan: A Brief Biography**
West Buchanan, born in October 1934, embarked on his cinematic journey relatively late, making his initial film appearance at the age of 31 in the 1975 espionage film *C.I.A. Secret Story*, directed by Giuseppe Ferrara. Prior to this, he had already immersed himself in the Italian film scene for nearly five years, often working as a stuntman and extra under the pseudonym Buck West. Although his role in *C.I.A. Secret Story* was minor, he gained recognition for a more notable part in Edward Dmytryk’s *The Human Factor*, where he appeared alongside a young Danny Huston.
Buchanan's career began to flourish with his significant role in Mino Guerrini’s comedy *Vinella e Don Pezzotta*, where he portrayed Padre Splendid, a progressive priest from America. However, it was his appearances in Alfonso Brescia’s series of low-budget sci-fi films that brought him international attention. In *War of the Planets*, he played an engineer assisting space captain John Richardson, and he made cameo appearances in *Battle of the Stars* and *War of the Robots*, further solidifying his presence in genre cinema.
Throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s, Buchanan appeared in various films, including Lina Wertmuller’s *A Night Full of Rain* and the gothic horror *Ring of Darkness*. He eventually returned to the U.S., featuring in David Hess’s slasher *To All a Goodnight* and Walter Hill’s *The Long Riders*. His last appearance came in Rex Pickett’s *From Hollywood to Deadwood* in 1988. West Buchanan passed away in 1995 at the age of 61.
