Lawrence Edwin Craig, born on July 20, 1945, is a former American politician who represented Idaho for nearly three decades. A member of the Republican Party, he had a notable tenure in the United States Senate from 1991 to 2009, where he served for 18 years. Prior to his Senate career, Craig was a congressman in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Idaho's 1st District from 1981 to 1991. His combined 28 years in Congress make him one of the longest-serving politicians in Idaho's history, second only to the esteemed William Borah, who held his Senate seat for over 32 years.

Throughout his political career, Craig was an advocate for various issues, including gun rights, evidenced by his long-standing position on the Board of Directors of the National Rifle Association, a role he has held since 1983. In recognition of his contributions to the state, Craig was nominated for induction into the Idaho Hall of Fame in 2007, although he did not ultimately receive the honor.

Larry Craig's career has been marked by significant legislative involvement and a commitment to his constituents, solidifying his legacy in Idaho's political landscape.
